Welcome to Day Nine of the 12 Days of Solstice Poetry Challenge 2021

Winter is a truly transformational time, the season when lakes and creeks ice over and become places where you can walk, fish, skate, or play rousing games of hockey. It feels surreal to walk where you normally can’t in warmer times. And it can feel even more surreal to see quickly running waters that don’t give in to winter’s icy demands.

My friend Cheryl Racanelli is back today with a haiku she was inspired to write after experiencing a snowy brook near her home. Cheryl was kind enough to send me a photo of that brook, which I’ve used for today’s image.

Your prompt for today is: SNOWY BROOK. And here is Cheryl’s haiku….

boulders in the brook
capped with last night’s snow—
a village of gnomes
