Welcome to Day Five of the 12 Days of Solstice Poetry Challenge 2021!

In the rush of the world, in the rush of this season, our attention is often pulled to what we consider the big blessings. The loved ones we share time with. Or holiday events we choose to partake in. Those are all wonderful, but I also love looking for the smaller, more hidden blessings…the softness of my dog’s tongue in my hand when I give him a treat, the way my husband’s eyes look when he’s about to say something funny, the way this year’s dried grasses bounce in the wind, still so remarkably alive. So many blessings are always there, if we look for them.

Today’s prompt is: HIDDEN BLESSINGS. (Or go with BLESSINGS if a shorter prompt feels better for you!)

HIDDEN BLESSINGS

Have you found the little blessings–
In between pages of your favorite books, or
Down under the kitchen sink or
Dangling within the spider’s web, or
Even written in invisible ink between the lines of
Notes you’ve scribbled for yourself?

Blessings are where and when you
Look for them, appearing
Effortlessly, a trick of quantum physics or
Surreptitious magic left after that festive Hogwarts
Sing-a-long you may or may not remember. Now
Imagine the blessings where you left them (you
Nipping by before you joined this life), the hidden gifts you
Gave yourself so you’d one day re-remember just how
Spectacular you and your magic really are.

If you’d like to share what you’ve written in response to today’s prompt, please feel free to add your poem as a comment–here or on my Facebook page where this prompt will also be posted.

Enjoy this blessed day, and I’ll see you on Day Six!

Beautiful, Barbara! I love the part about blessings between the lines you’ve written in a note to yourself!
